ABOUT

Jane Zweibel's "stuffed paintings" are sewn, stuffed, and painted sculptural objects which challenge and blur the boundaries and traditions of both sculpture and painting. The resulting soft sculptures allude to childhood stuffed animals and dolls, while also suggesting cartoon
figures, spiritual icons, and effigies.

Jane Zweibel holds an MFA in Painting from Columbia University and is the recipient of grants from the Puffin Foundation and the Artist's Fellowship Inc. She has also been awarded fellowships from the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Banff Centre of the Arts. Her work has been reviewed in Art in America and the New York Times. A retrospective of her work will be mounted at the Kulay-Diwa Gallery in Manila, the Philippines in 2011.
